The busking culture in Glasgow 

Within Glasgow  there is a large number of buskers, especially in the city centre,

whether it be a electric violin cover of Despacito or one of the many talented

singers you can encounter a variety of different people and genres and can be

used as a great way for up and coming artists to burst into popularity for

example Dylan john Thomas, a musician who tours with musicians like Liam

Gallagher and Sam Fender. Dylan started his career busking so he could build

up his confidence and use it as experience for the future.

when asked how busking helps with your confidence he had this to say "I knew if

I got into busking, I'd be able to play everyday."

Busking is a great way to build up your reputation as a musician while also making money on the side. Looking to get into busking? in order to be able to busk, a license is required depending on the location as different counties have different policies and if your selling anything along with it such as CDs or merchandise, if you are busking outside a store or other public service you will need permission as well. also the code of conduct must be followed (see below)

The music culture in Glasgow

The music culture in Glasgow is a massive apart of what makes

Scotland a massive tourist attraction, being a place where new musicians

can take off and become big stars, such as Oasis who found fame at the

King Tuts gig venue and became a massive Britpop sensation. King Tuts

then went to become a big venue for hosting a multitude of different

musicians (see image to the right). Glasgow is also home to a bustling busking

culture as whenever you’re in town you can find a busker just around a

corner no matter where you are.

 

Oasis’s own Liam Gallagher even went on to say “you can’t beat Glasgow

” after he headlined at TRNSMT during 2021 despite having less

people due to COVID.

 

Glasgow’s home to famous musicians and bands such as, Lewis Capaldi, Gerry Cinnamon, Primal Scream, Franz Ferdinand, Paolo Nutini and much more. Glasgow has been praised for its amazing crowds and their legendary chants such as the iconic “here we, here we,” chant, which really hypes up both the audience and the performers, Glasgow crowds really do know how to make a musician feel welcome.
